MOMENTS TO PAUSE: COLLECTED SHORT STORIES OF DAVID MICHAUD
Roughly two years before this collection was published, I was inspired by two books. The first was Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka and the other was a collection of short stories written by Anton Chekhov. Metamorphosis evokes strong emotions which vary as the story and characters evolve. My story Rozario was started immediately after reading the story. As for Chekhov's short stories, they have touched and impressed me despite very ordinary characters and settings. It follows that many stories in the collection have ordinary settings and characters.
Similar to my experience after completing the drafting of the poems contained in my poetry collection, I found it interesting to observe themes arising in my short stories. The collection, Moments to Pause, is divided into four sections: Personal Relationships, Tension, Morality and Crime, Psychological Twist and Surrealism and Longing to Create Art (Hours of joy-filled effort and fleeting moments of rapture. The following words capture a theme in the work.
There are moments in life when one is acutely aware that things will not be the same after, regardless whether the situation worsens or improves. Stories in this collection describe events preceding, during and following moments of pause which invariably occur during such times.
I sincerely hope that you, the reader, experience some moments of joy and relaxation as you read the short stories I've crafted and shared.

2024 Release
Just Below the Surface was David Michaud’s first poetry collection, in which he first pays homage to poets who have inspired him. The remainder is a deeply personal attempt to explore experience and emotions often only captured in one’s diary. The work touches on fear, loneliness, heartbreak, imagination, and nature; aiming to provide both himself and the reader a few moments of solace or joy.

The Benefit of Artistic Expression
I feel that one who creates art as a matter or practice, and spirituality, experiences life to the fullest. Over and above satisfaction derived from consistent effort, and feelings of euphoria when artistic breakthroughs occur, gaining a deeper understanding of oneself enables the artist to truly see and accept others.
